Renato Vieira

Renato moved to Australia in 2009 to travel and look at BJJ in Australia. Renato was introduced to Phoenix Gym by our associate gyms in Sydney – Double Dragon and TP fight team.   

Renato was so impressed with Phoenix Gym he decided to stay and live in Canberra to build our BJJ club and to train for professional MMA competition. Phoenix BJJ has operated for ten years under the guidance of Anthony and Haisam but now Phoenix has the opportunity to take our BJJ to a whole new level.

Renato is the first BJJ Black Belt to run a BJJ club in the ACT and he is the highest graded BJJ black belt and only authentic ‘Gracie’ family BJJ coach in the region. He is also a professional MMA competitor.

Renato started BJJ in 1996 with the Gracie academy with Coach Rodrigo Pagani and Rolker Gracie in Niteri Rio De Janeiro Brasil. Renato graded to Black Belt in 2007 after 11 years of intensive full time BJJ training and coaching.

Renato has been to the world BJJ Championships 5 times and is a 10 times Rio De Janeiro BJJ League Champion. Not only is Renato a high level BJJ Black Belt, he is a BJJ champion that brings a level of BJJ to Phoenix that is world class and unprecedented in the ACT.
